Companion Plants

I place clematis and geranium together, their compatability

Delighting in sun clambers. Sprouting buds, they grow

With the closeness of companions rooted in intimacy despite their

Daily travels in divergent directions. They’re heading north and east

Arm in arm, comfortable with their thoughts. A cool wind makes them dogged

They shelter each other while my garlics shrink inwards appearing weak

And lethargic as if unable to thrive among blushing icebergs. Maybe they

Just couldn’t be bothered as it appears that the rosa rugosa

Unfolding its cerise pearl like a fortune cookie, is drunk on garlic wine

Unconvinced as to the merits of marriage.
