when autumn dabbed the day

with varnish, a glaze of earthen red

descending

leaf drops from tree tops,

the car settling under a canopy of scattered tallow

tawny in the washed sun dance of day;

red mandevilla open like velvet trumpets

serenading an ode to the last rays of summer.

Noisy miners swoop into the lilly pilly playing seagull for a lark
