Glazed

Out into the open again after city

storks jostled for space among caffe

lattes and sushi in the sun. The train

caught the last beaming smiles

of contentment as the day’s long ending

shone ghosts across the water

familiarity bent into shapes,

first, a gerbera, flowering orange

in the glaze.
