serendipitous gardening, or chance
that my eye followed the cypresses
up to the sky for they grow despite
neglect from the neighbours whose
dog is also left. perhaps it was
that howl which drew me there
tracing the vine’s path across six
trees, to observe large seed pods
protruding like lights above me.
The cypresses are waving flowers again
this year the pandoreas seem bigger
being so high and the air so pure
that the birds swoop and swoon.
One passionfruit flowers.
I can only imagine that is has arrived
like a comet, its unusual radiance
enticing my astronomer
from the computer
and the dog to quiet
as we all stare
