Bird Words

1.

A boldness of currawong

hops near, beak

full of straw and grit;

twice I pause and twice bird

bows until bird flies off

and I head home,

to nest.

2.

There comes to nest

three lorikeets

whose fluting lilt

finds bird words

laced like ferns

in the shadows

of sun.

3.

A birdman

reaches out

an upturned palm

of unspoken song
