Cypress XVII

Seventeen. Today they look ragged

drought-stricken. To water them

would be to water the builders

indifferent to their plight.

These pine trees plead for rain,

their arch to the sky depletes

their weight, they stand weak,

only their stories in tact.

I search the cloudless sky.
